March 31, 2025
Although recent rainfall has offered some relief, water levels are still well below typical averages for this time of year and will likely become more evident as we move into the spring and summer months. BCWSA encourages customers to stay mindful of water usage and conservation efforts to help manage supply.
Due to ongoing drought conditions, BCWSA is requesting all customers continue to voluntarily reduce non-essential water use effective immediately. This request aligns with the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection’s (PA DEP) Drought Watch and aims to achieve a 25% reduction in water usage across our service area.
BCWSA continues to closely monitor water levels and follow all PA DEP guidelines to ensure a sustainable water supply. We encourage our customers to take common-sense conservation measures—not only to help preserve this essential resource but also to lower their water bills.
Voluntary Water Conservation Measures
To help achieve this goal, customers are encouraged to follow these voluntary water-saving guidelines:
✅ Indoor Water Use
- Turn off faucets while shaving or brushing your teeth.
- Run dishwashers and washing machines only with full loads.
- Use a basin to clean vegetables instead of letting water run.
- Locate and repair leaks in faucets, toilets, and pipes.
- Reduce toilet flushes when possible.
- Take shorter showers and opt for shallow baths.
- Install water-saving devices such as low-flow showerheads and faucet aerators.
✅ Outdoor Water Use
- Limit watering of plants and gardens; use a watering can instead of a hose.
- Refrain from watering lawns to conserve water.
- Turn off ornamental water features such as fountains and waterfalls.
- Avoid washing driveways, sidewalks, and patios.
- Use commercial car washes that recycle water instead of washing at home.
Ongoing Monitoring & Updates
BCWSA will continue to assess conditions and provide updates as necessary. These voluntary conservation measures may be adjusted in accordance with any restrictions set by the Governor of Pennsylvania, PA DEP, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, or the Delaware River Basin Commission.
We appreciate your cooperation in helping protect our water supply during this drought period. Together, we can make a difference.
