Updated: November 21, 2024
BCWSA has been closely monitoring the water levels across our service area and following all guidelines issued by the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection. We regularly provide our customers and the communities we serve with tips and best practices to reduce their water usage while maintaining their daily routines. We will provide additional updates as needed and continue to do our part during this drought period
Due to the lack of substantial rainfall in the last six months and to avoid a water shortage, BCWSA is requesting a voluntary reduction in the non-essential use of water effective immediately. The objective of this warning is to achieve an immediate 25% reduction in water usage. Customers should be mindful of their water consumption and use common sense measures to conserve water – and save money on their bills.
Listed below are non-essential water use guidelines for your voluntary reduction:
- Turn faucets off while shaving and brushing teeth.
- Fill dishwashers to the brim before running; use economy cycle on dishwashers where applicable.
- Fill loads in washing machines.
- Clean vegetables in a container of water, do not keep water running.
- Locate and repair all leaks in faucets, toilets, and other water using devices.
- Reduce the number of toilet flushes per day.
- Take shorter showers and shallower baths.
- Install flow restrictors in showerheads and faucets.
- Reduce watering of landscaped areas by means of a bucket or sprinkling can.
- Refrain from watering your lawn.
- Shut off all ornamental water use devices including fountains, artificial waterfalls and reflecting pools.
- Refrain from washing down your driveway.
- Use automatic car wash facilities with recycled water.
We request your voluntary cooperation in this drought warning. These use reductions may be modified consistent with any restrictions imposed by the Governor of Pennsylvania, the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency or the Delaware River Basin Commission.
Thank you for working together to achieve this voluntary goal.
