Drought Watch Lifted for Many Counties, Water Conservation Still Encouraged
The Pennsylvania Drought Task Force recently lifted the drought watch for 21 counties, including Bucks and Montgomery counties, which include townships that receive water supplied by BCWSA. The PA Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) determines the drought declaration status based on stream flow, groundwater level, precipitation, and soil moisture indicators. DEP makes its drought declarations after assessing the departures from these normal ranges for periods of 3-12 months. The department also factors information it receives from public water suppliers. While the drought watch has been lifted, BCWSA encourages residents to maintain water conservation such as the following: Run the dishwasher and washing machine less often and only when full Water gardens in the cooler evening or morning hours Water lawns only if necessary Check for and repair household leaks Skip the car wash Ongoing Monitoring & Updates BCWSA will continue to assess conditions and provide updates as necessary. These voluntary conservation measures may be adjusted in accordance with any restrictions set by the Governor of Pennsylvania, PA DEP, Pennsylvania Emergency Management Agency, or the Delaware River Basin Commission.
