After one-year pause, new applications are being accepted again.
WARRINGTON, PA – The Bucks County Water & Sewer Authority (BCWSA) urges homeowners who have received utility shut-off notices to explore grants that may be available to them through the Pennsylvania Homeowner Assistance Fund (PAHAF). The program provides financial assistance to eligible homeowners for mortgage and housing-related expenses, including utility payments.
“Customers can face unplanned financial challenges at any time,” said Benjamin Jones, CEO of BCWSA. “The PAHAF can provide qualifying households with support to help navigate financial emergencies. Our staff is ready and happy to assist our customers with supportive resources that are available through our state and federal partners.”
Established to mitigate the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the acceptance of new PAHAF applications was paused in February 2023 to address a backlog of applicants. The Pennsylvania Housing Finance Agency (PHFA), the agency that administers PAHAF, announced it is once again accepting new applications effective Monday, March 18. The program will remain open until the remaining monies are exhausted.
To date, BCWSA customers have received grants totaling more than $50,000 from PAHAF.
Funds will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible applicants with priority given to homeowners facing an imminent adverse action (IAA) such as a notice of foreclosure, sheriff sale or utility shut-off notice. The submission of an application does not guarantee funding. Interested Pennsylvania homeowners should visit pahaf.org for more information, eligibility requirements, and instructions on how to submit their application.
